Adopt A Debt — Privacy Policy

Overview

Adopt A Debt is a platform that connects donors with people burdened by debt. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We Do Not Handle Money

Adopt A Debt does not handle, process, or hold any money. Donors pay creditors directly through official payment portals. The only payments processed through the app are listing fees and optional donor tips, which are handled by Apple's In-App Purchase system (StoreKit). We never have access to your payment information.

We Verify Every Debt

We verify user identity with government-issued ID and scan uploaded bills to confirm the creditor name, amount, and account number match the listing. Verified debts display a trust badge.

Identity verification: Government ID is verified securely through our verification provider. Your ID document is never stored on our servers.
Bill verification: Uploaded bills are scanned to confirm they match the listing details. Bills are processed and not permanently stored.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information you provide:

Name: First name and last name
Email: For account access and notifications
Location: City and state (for listing display)
Debt information: Creditor name, account number (last 4 digits), amount owed, monthly payment, category, and your story
Bill images: Photos of redacted bills you choose to upload

Redaction Responsibility

You are responsible for redacting (blacking out) all personal information before uploading bills or documents. This includes Social Security numbers, full account numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. You upload documents at your own risk. Only show what is needed to verify and pay the debt.

How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account
To display your debt listing to potential donors
To verify your identity and the authenticity of your debt
To notify you when your debt has been adopted or contributed to
To process listing fees and donor tips through Apple's In-App Purchase system

What We Do NOT Do

We do not sell your data to third parties
We do not share your data with advertisers
We do not process or hold debt payments
We do not store your government ID after verification
We do not access your financial accounts

Biometric Data

If you enable Face ID or Touch ID for app lock, your biometric data is processed entirely on your device by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. We never receive, store, or transmit your biometric data.

In-App Purchases

Listing fees and donor tips are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles all payment processing and stores your payment information securely. We do not have access to your credit card or payment details.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed, including your debt listings, stories, and uploaded images.

Your Rights

Delete your account: You can delete your account and all data at any time from Profile settings
Edit your listings: You can edit or remove your debt listings at any time
Disable biometric lock: You can turn off Face ID/Touch ID at any time in settings
Restore purchases: You can restore previous in-app purchases at any time

Children's Privacy

Adopt A Debt is not intended for use by children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
